Courageous Creative

One thing that I've learned since striking out on my own, is that it takes a LOT of courage to put yourself out there and do what you must.

There are literally an infinite number of routes, channels, techniques, and strategies you can adopt in order to achieve your goals—goals you might not have crystallized yourself yet!

It takes self-awareness, which is a TON of work that so many people never see. Asking questions, digesting, listening very very closely, choosing a direction, and acting.

Like football players we only watch perform once a Sunday for a few months of the year, what we don't see is the years of hard work, relentless practice, brutal strength training, and excruciating rehab that happens just below the surface.

Speak softly and carry a big pencil.

But you know what they have? They have each other. They can't do it all on their own, and neither can we. What I've learned is that it's so much easier to go the distance, to learn from mistakes, and to continue to push the envelope when you have people you can confide in, trust, and bounce ideas off of.

Good partners free you up to do more of what you’re best at. What is an agency if not a collective of specialists that can trust and rely on one another?

Going alone can be so scary. In fact, it’s the LAST situation that you want to be in in a scary movie. Imagine walking down the hallway of a creepy corridor. It’s dark, ominous, and impossible to predict what’s coming next. And whatever is coming next, you’re going to be facing on your own. I don’t know about you, but I’d want at least someone there with me. Hopefully someone wise enough to have brought a flashlight!

Leaning into your network to rely on their expertise and advice is something I’m finding more and more valuable every day.

What tasks are you entrusting with others so that you can do more of what you’re best at?
